what up. this is what ive been listening to lately i guess since ive been taking a dive into russian music again (i've done it several times before, i just want to write about it now)
Дюна - Привет с большого бодуна
definitely a weird one but theres some bangers like гороскоп and пой, деревня (and especially the relatively famous привет с большого бодуна that the album is named after). a good example of the interesting, somewhat eccentric music that was coming out of russia during the 90s. very interesting (and chaotic) decade
Земфира - земфира
an album with a more american sound (still clearly russian) but it serves as a good example of the influence that american media had as it started flooding into the CIS post-collapse, and to an extent the late 80s. its also quite famous as far as i'm aware (at least the track почему is) and has many bangers. some of my favorites being ромашки, скандал, and земфира but they're honestly all pretty good
Yat-Kha - Yenisei Punk
this album goes hard as fuck. im not sure if theres even a genre you can fit this into, but its a tuvan album with a lot of throat singing and a lot of electric guitar. except one of the tracks which is just a guy throat singing for 11 minutes which isn't really my jam but otherwise its rad
Vladimir Oidupaa - Divine Music from Jail
the only two sounds you hear in this album are an accordion and this guy's voice but its awesome. this album is another tuvan album with a lot of throat singing but it's much more raw and emotional. i haven't looked into the backstory of this album much but as far as i know oidupaa spent over 3 decades in labor camps for a crime that he may not have committed and you can hear the pain and sorrow that came of that in this album. i have no clue what the lyrics mean but i highly recommend you give it a listen if you're okay with just an accordion and some singing
